The Page Grader

The page grader reads one page of your site the way an AI crawler does and tells you what stands between that page and an AI answer. Open it from Brands, then Grade pages on your brand. Enter the address of a page on your domain and grade it. Start with your home page and your pricing page.

The score

Each page gets a score out of 100 and a pass or fail.

  • 100 means every check passed.
  • A page passes when no critical or high check fails. Medium checks only lower the score.
  • A failed critical check costs 30 points, a high one 20 and a medium one 5.

A page that could not be read at all fails, and the card says why.

The checks

Check Weight What it looks at
AI crawlers allowed Critical Your robots.txt must let GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User read the page. An engine whose crawler is blocked cannot use it. No robots.txt means every crawler is allowed.
Readable without JavaScript Critical Most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. If your text only appears after scripts run, they see an empty page. The check counts the words in the page as delivered, before any script runs.
First 50 words High AI answers quote the first lines of a page. Those lines should say who you are, what you do, where you work and what it costs.
Structured data High A hidden block in the page (JSON-LD) that tells engines, in a fixed format, what your business is and what the page answers. It must be present and valid.
llms.txt Medium A short text file at your site root that summarises your site for AI tools. Cheap to add; its effect is not proven yet.
Category in title Medium The page title should say what kind of product you are, so engines file you under the right category.
Category in description Medium The page description shown in search results should name your category too.

The two category checks use the category from your brand profile. They are skipped when no category is set, or when the page has no description.

Hover any check to see the reason behind it. Choose Grade again after you change the page.

First 50 words

The First 50 Words check looks for four things in the opening of the page, and the card shows each one:

  • Who: your brand name is in the opening.
  • What: the opening says what kind of product or service this is.
  • Where: the opening says where you operate, or that you work worldwide.
  • Price: the opening states a price, a starting price or that it is free.

Rewrite the opening

Choose Rewrite the opening to get a new opening that says who, what, where and the price. It is built only from the facts in your truth file, so it never invents a number: every figure in it comes from your truth file, your brand profile or your current opening. The rewrite must pass the same First 50 Words check before it is shown.

You see the current opening next to the new one. Use Copy and paste it at the top of the page. If the rewrite could not meet every rule, it is shown with a warning that says what is missing, usually a fact your truth file does not have yet. Add the fact, then choose Rewrite again.

After you publish the change, grade the page again, and add an entry to the intervention log so the next check’s change can be traced back to it.
